Monday there was now school, so I had no Walkabout.
Tuesday I worked upstairs in the Sales department again with Wonda. Sadly, I did drift off for a few minutes, and I felt really bad about it. She wasn't really doing anything I could help with, so she told me I could go ahead and doodle things for a while. While doodling, I asked her questions about what she did, why she did it and how she did it. The rest of the day that she was there I ran some errands for her and helped her set up for her presentation of example templates for the Hilton Hotel signs. When she left, I went and worked with Kelly, following him around and such. He showed me this program called 'Gary's Mod' when he learned that I was wanting to go into 3D graphics and design.
Wednesday I went back upstairs and worked with Kelly again, today a more serrious day. I followed him around whereever he went, and we spent a good portion of the time after lunch trying to get this ancient engraver to work with its program. The problem was that it was an OLD program, and the newer computer was working too fast for it, even when the bit sending was turned down to the lowest. We never did get it farther than the setup screen...
Thursday I went and worked with Terry again since he hadn't gotten those signs finished. We worked on those, then he went to the computer and started working and looking for files. Watching him really sent it to my brain that it's not as easy as it looks. We talked and I asked him how he came to work there. He said he had worked at the company that Judy had worked at, and that later she had bought out that company. He just kinda came witht the company. Terry also said that he loves his job. I don't balme him. If I worked here full time I would love to have his job too!
((P.S. I also was out at Longhorn for lunch on Friday. We were celebrating Pat and Judy's birthday))
James, if you are reading this, please talk to be about if you've talked to Evan about the issue in the last post.

Feb: Week of the 10th
Well, after all the school closings, I finally got to my Walkabout. Psssssh.
Monday I told you about, I worked upstairs on the Sales floor with Emilie. She's so awesome. Towards the end of the day she started google-ing to find out what was in my keychain. Too bad, she could have spent that time working on her Cold Calls and such.
Thursday I was downstairs in Engraving. Basically I was in the same room all day loading the badges on to the engraving machine, taking the finished ones off, etc. I picked up on it so fast that they had me work two tables! It takes a ton of awareness, and I hope to be able to program the names and strokes for the engraving soon
Friday I worked with Terry again. This time we were making signs. I think they were for a Boy-scout group or something. Anyways, he would print out the numbers on a special machine thay cut the screen-print (You know, that plastic stuff that goes on your car in details and flames and bumper stickers?) out, then you have to peal away the extra so just the number remained. It's not as easy as it sounds. By then end of the day, two signs for 1, 2, and 12 still had to be made.
Hopefully (I really want to talk to James about this ASAP) for the rest of my 3rd quarter walkabout I'll work in the Art department, learning how to design the badges right and how to use Adobe Illistrator, and for my 4th quarter walkabout to HOPEFULLY be able to stay at Identity Systems Inc. and work in the Engraving department or in the tech room to get a further grasp on how a buisness is run and such.
Tata for now!

Got a Walkabout, STUPID WEATHER!
So I've gotten a walkabout at Identity Systems Inc.
I started last Friday and shadowed a guy named Terry. He basically designs the cards made there. And guess what? I got to design one too! It was for Southwest Public Libraries. That was the highlight of the day basically, and I'm learning how to use Adobe Illistrator.
On Monday I shadowed a women named Emilie who works on the sales floor. She showed me how to make quotes for people on costs, how to check what the people have left in inventory, and how to make the 'cold calls'. I don't know why it's called that, you just call your customers with updates, etc. I spent the whole day there, and then she took me out to lunch. I'll have to repay her somehow.
Friday I'll post another blog if I can get in, this weather is horrible!

Wednesday, Feb 6th
I haven't started my Walkabout yet, hopefully by next Monday I can start! So right now I'm just sitting at home, waiting for the parents to get home so I can go to the library. I've forgotten how boring it gets when you're the only one home, when there isn't anything to fricken do.
So, heading out!
